Job Responsibility Nursing Staff

  1. Monitoring weight of babies and plotting it in growth monitoring chart
  2. Daily baby bed making and disinfection of bed with soap and water
  3. Checking of all accessories of bed during taking over
    1. Thermometer
    2. Measuring tape
    3. Resuscitation kit
    4. Spirit box
    5. Hand rub
    6. Stethoscope
  4. Daily cleaning and disinfection of Radiant warmers, phototherapy units, infusion pumps, SpO2 monitors, SpO2 sensors, warmer sensors
  5. Room temperature reading and recording in log book
  6. Checking of emergency trolley for drugs and consumables
  7. Change of humidifier water
  8. Autoclaving - Linen, cotton swabs, instruments and maintenance of log book
  9. Cutting of syringe hub/ needle destruction and their proper disposal
  10. KMC and maintenance of log book
  11. Assist the doctor when performing emergency procedures
  12. Initiate resuscitation in the absence of doctor
  13. Take part in doctor’s rounds. Address relevant questions and be available for whatever questions the doctors may have concerning the baby or the attendants
  14. Monitoring of sweeper's job and maintaining log book for every shift
    1. Mopping
    2. NICU slippers cleaning
    3. Waste bin cleaning
    4. Surface disinfection (surfaces, critical points)
  15. Terminal disinfection of the baby beds
  16. Counseling of mothers - KMC/ Breastfeeding/ Hand expression of milk/ immunization/ identification of early signs of illness in baby
  17. General care of the baby
    1. Change baby's diaper
    2. Measure temperature
    3. Feed the baby
    4. Administer medications
    5. Involve parents during this session
  18. Change IV lines
  19. Administer blood transfusions when required
  20. Take blood samples
  21. Provide emotional support to the family
  22. Biomedical waste disposal according to Government of India guidelines
  23. Record every task done and observation made in monitoring sheet or other relevant sheet immediately after it is done
